U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Division22, 1st Coast Guard District
PUBLIC EDUCATION
Public Education is one of the primary missions of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, because the Coast Guard believes that educating the public about important boating safety issues is the best way to reduce boating accidents, injuries and deaths. To accomplish this mission, Auxiliary Members offer classes to young boaters between the ages of 10 and 18, Safe Boating Courses for Adults and advanced courses such as Coastal Navigation in local schools, libraries and similar locations which are attended by thousands of people around the country each year. All of these courses are taught by volunteers who have been trained and certified. Some classes are offered free of charge, with most having modest fees to cover the cost of materials such as books and training aids which are distributed to students.
Public Education goes far beyond the scope of the courses in ways such as these:
Our Public Affairs Efforts
We are ever present at public functions, parades, nautical events and other venues where we can reach out to the public and disseminate information about boating safety!!!! We always have lots of educational materials to hand out covering topics from weather to boat handling to environmental issues and so much more! Next time you see an Auxiliary Unit at an event, stop by and say hello!!!
Free Vessel Safety Checks
A unique chance to work with an Auxiliarist in a one on one environment and review your vessels safety features and mechanical/electrical systems
Speaking Engagements
We have volunteers who will visit yacht clubs, marinas and other locations to discuss boating safety and other related topics.
